Location

The Grand Trevi Fountain is located just a few steps away from the Fontana di Trevi. This baroque fountain, built in 1732 and finished in 1762, is especially spectacular at night. The streets surrounding the apartment are filled with bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours. It takes just a five minutes stroll to the Spanish Steps and Via Veneto (metro Barberini).

Located in the Trevi Square in the Quirinale district, Fontana di Trevi (The Trevi Fountain) is the most well know and perhaps the most alluring Roman fountain in the city. In the past, it was said that a glass of the fresh, reviving water from the Trevi Fountain would ensure good luck and a fast return to Rome. Over time, this practice was substituted with the tossing of a coin into the fountain. Tradition calls for one to toss a coin with their right hand over their left shoulder with their back to the fountain. The miniature fountain on the left side of the Trevi Fountain is known as the 'fountain of lovers'. It is said that if a couple drinks from it, they will be forever faithful to their partner. Arguably Italy's most famous staircase, The Spanish Steps, are also a short walk from the Fontana di Trevi, they consist of a whole 138 steps. The Spanish Steps accessible from Via dei Condotti, lead up from Piazza di Spagna to Trinita dei Monti, a church of French origin. The Spanish Steps were constructed in 1725 with bequeathed funds from a French diplomat Étienne Gueffier. The steps have featured in many films including the Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck and more recently the Talented Mr. Ripley starring Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow.
